Why can't I say Merry Christmas?

I have always loved Christmas. Although I feel it has become a very commercialized holiday (and I am an offender as well), I still love Christmas. I know we should remember why we celebrate Christmas - it is to remember the birth of Christ. Personally, I don't know that Christ was born on December 25; however, that is the date that has been set aside to remember His birth. It is very sad to me that over the past several years, people who do not believe in God have "taken over" the Christmas holiday and basically don't want people to make any mention of Christ. One of my cousins was in the "holiday show" at her school and they weren't allowed to sing any "Christmas" songs that mentioned Christ...only songs like Sleigh Ride, Let It Snow, etc. I wanted to stand up at the end of the show and sing O Holy Night, but of course, I didn't. I've noticed that when you go in some stores at Christmas, they will say "Happy Holidays" and I will respond with "thank you, and Merry Christmas." I am most times smiled at and told "Merry Christmas to you too."

I have friends who are Jewish and I respect their right to believe what they believe; however, I am a Christian and just ask that I be respected as well.

Christmas is what it is.....the day to remember the birth of Christ. If you don't want to celebrate it....don't celebrate it......but don't tell me how to celebrate it either.

Merry CHRISTmas everyone!

I've studied the subject before and discovered that Christmas came to be when the church was concerned with their members getting involved with a pagan holiday during the month of December. They decided to begin their own celebration of Christ's birth. I can't help but notice the ways the religious folks react differently than the secular folks. We start our own holiday. They try and take over ours.
